Hoedspruit Big 5 Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, adjoins the Kruger Park.
The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve (KPNR) is one of the largest privately owned nature reserves in South Africa covering some 60 000 hectares and is part of the greater Kruger National Park.. It is an entirely non-government organization involved in the full spectrum of Nature Conservation.
The area is open to Kruger Park allowing unrestricted movement of game ~ including the Big 5. “Big 5” consists of rhino, elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo. The plains game enjoying free movement include impala, waterbuck, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, nyala, bushbuck ~ to name a few. While on safari ~ or game drive ~ types of animals seen are aardvark, caracal, civet, genet, porcupine, hyena and ~ my favourite ~ bush babies.
Other well known reserves within the Greater APNR are Timbavati, Umbabat and Balule – which in turn is made up of Parsons, Olifants North, Olifants South, Olifants West and Grietjie.
Hoedspruit Big 5 Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is frequently being sought out for its more ‘holistic’ approach to conservation, exclusivity and especially the game walks ~ undertaken by highly qualified and respected Trails Guides.
Klaserie is made up of various large farms, all individually owned. There is an Executive Committee that is elected annually and who operate under the Warden, Colin Rowles. Colin is passionate about the area, his job and the various projects being conducted in Klaserie. CET (Children’s Environmental Training Programme) is just one of these initiatives that is so vitally important for future generations and wildlife conservation. CET is a strong initiative, achieving very encouraging results as youngsters are exposed to the wonders of nature and helping to protect it. Another important project is that of monitoring the Ground Horbill – a bird on the red data list. Hopefully the Ground Hornbill project will result in the increase of numbers of this endangered bird.
Owners in Hoedspruit Big 5 Klaserie Private Nature Reserve don’t sell properties often.
